Type 2 Tyrosinema is an autosomal recessive condition between ages 2 and 4 years old. Painful circumscribed calluses develop on the pressure points on the palm of the hand and the sole of the foot. It is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme tyrosine aminotransferasae which is an enzyme that is in the liver. The gene is encoded by TAT.
There are three types of tyosinema. Type I tyrosinema is found in children within the first few months of being born. This is the most severe.
Type II is more found in older children and type III is very rare.
Effects from Type 2 Tyrosinema
This disease can cause effects in the eyes, skin and mental development. It can also cause abnormal sensitivity to light which is called photophobia and eye pain. About 50 percent of children that have type 2 tyrosinema they have some sort of disability.
Treatment
The child would be on a restricted diet to help prevent eating certain proteins. They have to limit the amount of amino acid that they take in. Since most the patients are found with the disease at such a young age and are always so sick, that inpatient treatment is mandatory.
